Verdict
I recently received an EP from a band called Stone Carpet let me tell you a little about them.
Stone Carpet are an old fashioned melodic rock act.
The band originally formed as a three piece in late 2006 under a different name.
In the Spring of 2007 the original bass player left the band the remaining members of the band Magnus Stenbacken and Mattia Anderson decided to concentrate on writing songs.
In September 2007 the remaining members decided to record a 5 Track EP called “Silence”
Now the the remaining members have put together a complete band.
On with the review
The first track off the EP is called “Tell” and starts us of with a flashback of old classic rock from the 70’s, influences here are from Thin Lizzy to anything from modern greats such as the Hellacopters. The track starts off very slow pace then develops into an all out slab of rock n roll great stuff.
The next track “Still I Am Mine” continues in similar fashion as the last track fast then breaks down with some nice riffs and drumming so far the band know how to play rock n roll as it should be played.
The next track “Realize” kicks off a very slow pace but still so far so good the tracks so far have been very melodic the only criticism I have about the band is the lack of solos in their songs, but apart from this minor setback the music has some great thunderous riffs, great drumming and fantastic vocals.
The next track “Silence” starts off with a great guitar lead and a brilliant thumping bass line followed yet again my some magnificent vocals the track and the EP keeps on getting better and better fantastic stuff.
The final track “The Crying” starts off with a beating drum lead followed by slow guitars and a heavy bass line this track reminds me of something out of cave in “Antenna”. Then half way through erupts in a wall of heavy riffs head banging stuff indeed. The track finished wit h a great guitar solo.
So overall then this rock band from Sweden know how to play rock as it should be. They are very melodic and if you like the 70’ or 80’s style of rock you should really check this band out.
Can’t wait for their full LP
