Verdict
I had a 2 track demo submitted to me a few weeks ago by a band called “Blackout” their 2 track demo is called “Sub Human” and generally the band are a heavy metal outfit. Let me tell you a little bit about them according to their Press Pack Blackout are a Thrash/Groove Metal band from the southeast of England. The band are loud, drunk, smelly and unhealthy. They drink 800 pints a day and play metal, as it should be; they also are emo free and have no dress sense. With all that information in mind can this band survive another day without having a heart attack?
The demo was recorded at the White House Studios in Reading. So on with the review then.
The first track “Honour Bound” kicks of with a belter of melodic big fat thrashing riffs then vocals kick from lead singer Harry Watson that are very heavy and death like growls. Musically the track resembles riffs from Testament and the 100 mile per drumming from something out of Messuagh this is electrifying stuff on the 2:40 min mark the track takes a downward spiral into the oblivion. The press kit says “Blackout Heavy Fucking Metal” well so far I can’t disagree with the statement. Clocking in at 4 minutes this track will want to make you get up and headbang.
The second track “Unaccountable” starts off with a slower pace temp with riffs out of early Machine Head days, big heavy chucky riffs and heaving drumming then the track erupts into total mayhem. So far musically the band have brought their game A to the table and play heavy metal, as it should be. Both tracks have been very heavy with a mix of thrash and really fantastic melodic hooks that will keep you hooked all the way. The track half way through breaks down and we get some really cool guitar solo work brilliant stuff. The track is a glorious 7-minute assault on the ears.
So to sum up this demo? Well what’s not to like about this band they play raw, thrash/heavy metal they way it should be played. According to their press pack the band should be releasing a full-length debut next year I cannot wait. Highly recommended!!!!
